Casablanca Stock Exchange Experiences a Decline

On Friday, June 5, 2026, the Casablanca Stock Exchange concluded the day on a negative note, with its main index, the MASI, falling by 0.24% to settle at 18,519.03 points. This downward trend was not isolated, as the MASI 20 index, which encompasses the 20 most liquid stocks, also slipped by 0.11%, reaching 1,320.34 points. Additionally, the MASI ESG index, which highlights companies with superior Environmental, Social, and Governance ratings as assessed by Moody's ESG Solutions, experienced a decline of 0.17%, closing at 1,354 points.

The performance of smaller companies was captured by the MASI Mid and Small Cap index, which recorded a more significant drop of 0.7%, ending the day at 1,869.94 points. Internationally, the FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index and the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid indices also closed lower, with losses of 0.17% and 0.18%, respectively, marking their final values at 17,698.37 points and 15,956.77 points.

Sector Performance and Stock Movements

Sector-wise, the most considerable declines were observed in the "Forestry and Paper" sector (-3.24%), the "Agricultural Industry" (-1.89%), and the "Electricity" sector (-1.71%). Conversely, the "Beverages" sector and "Portfolio Holding Companies" saw increases of 0.86% each, while the "Financial Services and Other Financial Activities" sector rose by 0.76%, showcasing resilience in a challenging market.

Trading volume on the exchange amounted to over 216.41 million dirhams, predominantly driven by significant transactions in stocks such as Holcim Maroc (28.18 million dirhams), Attijariwafa Bank (22.37 million dirhams), and Compagnie Minière de Touissit (15.85 million dirhams). The total market capitalization stood at an impressive 1,076.4 billion dirhams.

When examining individual stock performance, SMI faced the steepest decline, dropping 5.49% to 8,600 dirhams, followed by Minière Touissit, which fell 4.44% to 4,905 dirhams. Other notable decliners included Med Paper (-3.24% to 24.19 dirhams), Cartier Saada (-2.56% to 28.16 dirhams), and CMGP Group (-1.89% to 350 dirhams). On a brighter note, Oulmès saw an increase of 3.98%, closing at 1,279 dirhams, while Ennakl and Eqdom rose by 3.23% and 2.55%, respectively, demonstrating pockets of strength amid the overall downturn.
