Celebrating 900 Years of Ibn Rushd: A Poetic Tribute from 120 Poets

A Commemorative Anthology Marking the Legacy of Ibn Rushd

In a grand celebration of the 900th anniversary of the birth of the esteemed philosopher Ibn Rushd, also known as Averroes, a remarkable anthology features the contributions of 120 poets from fourteen different countries. This initiative, as articulated by participant Abdel Aziz Koukas, is not merely an artistic endeavor but a literary movement with international dimensions, designed to honor the legacy and influence of Ibn Rushd, one of the most significant intellectual figures of Andalusian civilization.

The anthology, which will be introduced through a digital platform and bilingual publication by nine translators, aims to create a space for cultural and linguistic exchange, drawing inspiration from the universal human, philosophical, and cosmic heritage of the Cordoban sage. The launch events are set to take place in prominent cities such as Cordoba, Marrakech, and Fes, followed by Madrid, between September and November of this year.

A Collaborative Effort Supported by Renowned Institutions

Koukas has stated that the publication of this esteemed work is entrusted to the prestigious Almuzara publishing house and is supported by several significant institutions, including the Cervantes Institute, the Cedro Center, the Andalusian Ministry of Culture, the Cordoba Municipality, and the Moroccan Association for Andalusian Friendship, Forum Ibn Rushd, along with the Balearia Foundation. These organizations have united their efforts to ensure the success of what is poised to become one of the most notable cultural initiatives during the 'Year of Ibn Rushd.'

The anthology encompasses an impressive lineup of poets, featuring works from renowned figures such as Abdelatif Laabi, Mohamed Ben Talha, Said Koubrat, and many others, showcasing a diverse array of voices and styles. This literary tribute not only celebrates the life and works of Ibn Rushd but also fosters a rich dialogue among cultures, emphasizing the enduring impact of his philosophy on contemporary thought.
