19th International Theatre and Cultures Festival to Showcase Artistic Diversity
The Casablanca-Settat region is excited to host the 19th edition of the International Theatre and Cultures Festival, scheduled to take place from April 15 to April 25, 2026. This remarkable event, organized in collaboration with the Foundation of Living Arts and Casa Events and Animation, aims to spotlight cultural diversity through a vast array of performances from various countries including Palestine, Italy, France, and Morocco. By showcasing works from diverse artistic backgrounds, the festival endeavors to present multifaceted artistic perspectives that reflect the contemporary evolution of theatre and the interactions among differing stage traditions.
This festival is not just a platform for performances; it serves as a vibrant space for the exchange of ideas and dialogue among artists. With a total of eleven productions scheduled across multiple venues in the region, the festival will combine both national and international works, enriching the cultural tapestry of Casablanca-Settat.
Engaging Programs for Young Artists and Theatre Enthusiasts
In addition to theatrical performances, the festival will offer a series of conferences and masterclasses aimed at students, emerging artists, and theatre enthusiasts. These sessions will be led by acclaimed professionals in the field, providing an invaluable opportunity for learning and reflection regarding the challenges and dynamics of live performance. The topics will cover various aspects such as acting techniques, contemporary narrative forms, and the role of theatre in addressing social and digital transformations. Such initiatives are designed to facilitate knowledge transfer and foster stronger connections between generations of artists.
This year’s edition is expected to attract numerous prominent figures from the cultural and theatrical landscape, including artists from diverse backgrounds and geographical regions. Their participation will significantly enrich the discussions and enhance the connections between international theatre communities.
The festival’s international focus aligns with its mission to act as a platform for intercultural dialogue and networking among industry players. Unique to this edition is its expansion across several cities in the Casablanca-Settat region. In addition to the usual venues in Casablanca, the festival will for the first time incorporate locations in El Jadida and Ben Ahmed, thus broadening its reach and impact.
As noted by Abdellatif Maâzouz, this territorial expansion underscores the importance of culture as a catalyst for regional dynamism and visibility. He emphasizes that promoting the arts not only enhances regional attractiveness but also improves access to high-quality artistic expressions for local citizens. Similarly, Mohammed Jouahri highlights the festival's objective of energizing the city with a blend of national and international programming, creating favorable conditions for interaction between artists and audiences.
The opening ceremony, set to take place at the Studio of Living Arts, will feature a premiere performance of the play "Data Love," directed by Amine Nasseur. This production, performed by Moroccan actors, will kick off ten days of exciting programming aimed at elevating the national theatrical scene while fostering dialogue with international productions.
According to Noureddine Ayouch, this festival exceeds the boundaries of a mere event and serves as a vibrant space where artists and audiences converge. He emphasizes that this edition reflects a commitment to creation, international exchanges, and cultural dialogue. Since its inception, the International Theatre and Cultures Festival has established itself as a cornerstone of the Moroccan cultural landscape, facilitating the dissemination of works and fostering connections among practitioners, thereby contributing to the evolution of an ever-changing artistic ecosystem.
