Rabat Hosts Throne Cup Finals for Athletes with Disabilities
The Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPSH) held an impressive event on Saturday in Rabat, showcasing the finals of the Throne Cup for the 2024-2025 sports season. This thrilling occasion featured competitions in various sports, including amputee football, sitting volleyball, deaf football, and wheelchair basketball, bringing together athletes from across the nation to celebrate their achievements and dedication.
In the sitting volleyball category, the Salé Sports Association for Persons with Disabilities triumphed, defeating the Témara Association for Sports of Persons with Disabilities with a commanding score of 3 sets to 0. This victory not only highlighted the skill and teamwork of the Salé team but also underscored the growing prominence of adaptive sports in Morocco.
Meanwhile, in deaf football, the Mohammedia Sports Club for the Deaf emerged victorious after a closely contested match against the Tangier Union of Deaf and Mute Sports, winning by a score of 3 goals to 2. The competition was fierce, showcasing the athleticism and determination of all participants.
The title for amputee football was claimed by the Fes Sons Association for Persons with Disabilities, who delivered a remarkable performance against the Tangier Sports Union for Persons with Disabilities, winning decisively with a scoreline of 3-0. This victory serves as a testament to the resilience and talent within the community of athletes with disabilities.
In the wheelchair basketball finals, the Abnae Al Boughaz Sports Club for Persons with Disabilities from Tangier secured the championship title after outclassing the Handisport Souss Association from Agadir with a score of 49 to 34. Their victory showcased the high level of competition and the incredible skills of wheelchair basketball players in Morocco.
Hamid El Aouni, the president of FRMSPSH, expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating that the Throne Cup finals have achieved significant success both organizationally and technically, reflecting the development of disability sports in Morocco. He emphasized that this annual tradition serves to honor the athletes collectively, highlight their performances, and promote the visibility of various sports disciplines.
El Aouni further noted that these competitions provide an excellent platform to showcase the advancements in sports for persons with disabilities in Morocco, both in terms of performance and organization. He mentioned that several national teams are gearing up for important international events in the coming months, including the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Canada this September and the Amputee Football World Championship in Mexico in November.
The award ceremony for the winning clubs and associations of the Throne Cup for the 2024-2025 sports season was attended by notable figures, including the president of the federation, Abdeljabar Rachidi, the Secretary of State for Social Integration, and various personalities from the sports world, all coming together to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable athletes.
