Marrakech House of Poetry Celebrates Young Talent at "Nurseries of the Alphabet"

On April 14, 2026, the picturesque gardens of the Abu al-Abbas al-Sabti Institute for the Blind in Marrakech served as the backdrop for a vibrant closing celebration of the ninth season of poetry-writing workshops. This event marked the culmination of the 2025/2026 edition of the annual gathering known as "Nurseries of the Alphabet," organized by the esteemed Host of Poetry. The initiative aims to cultivate creative expression among the youth, encouraging children, teenagers, and young adults to explore their artistic capabilities through the written word.

Over 150 participants from various age groups attended the event, alongside representatives from educational and cultural institutions and public reading centers. The atmosphere was filled with joy and enthusiasm as the audience was treated to a selection of poetry readings showcasing the talents of the young poets. This year’s gathering was not just an event; it was a celebration of the creative spirits that thrive within the community.

The significance of the poetry workshops was underscored by speakers from the Host of Poetry, the Alaouite Organisation for the Rehabilitation of the Blind, and the institute's administration. They emphasized how these workshops serve as an inspiring model for nurturing creativity among children and young adults, helping them to discover and hone their artistic voices.

The program featured an array of engaging activities, including poetry readings, short performances, and interactive workshops led by artists such as Nezha El Jaïdi and Nezha Belhou. Their sessions seamlessly blended entertainment with an emphasis on the importance of reading, creating an enriching experience for all participants.

In an effort to strengthen community ties, the Host of Poetry has expanded its collaborations with various educational and cultural entities, including the Daoudiate Cultural Centre, Tameslouht, and both state and private schools. These partnerships focus on developing poetic techniques and performance skills, exploring the interconnections between poetry, theatre, and cinema.

A dedicated group of poets and researchers, including Dr. Abdellatif Sakhiri, Dr. Moulay Rachid Alaoui, artist Said Abou Khaled, and poet Badr Heboul, facilitated the workshops. Coordinators Ibrahim Qazzou, Dr. Hanan Madari, and Fatima Zahra Lamrabet played crucial roles in orchestrating the event, ensuring its success.

The highlight of the program was a segment titled "Poets of the Future," which featured readings from the ninth cohort of young poets. These readings explored poignant themes such as motherhood, nature, spring, imagination, and the essence of poetry itself, resonating deeply with the audience of parents and educators.

Film critic Hassan Wahbi presented a collaborative script developed by the participants, offering insights into their creative potential. The event also included interactive poetry performances, showcasing how much the young poets had grown throughout the program.

"Nurseries of the Alphabet" has firmly established itself as a vital annual event dedicated to fostering emerging voices in poetry and creative writing, while also promoting a culture of reading within the community. This initiative embodies the Host of Poetry's broader mission to connect Moroccan poetic expression with critical thought and openness to future possibilities.
