In a remarkable display of athletic talent and resilience, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FRMSPSH) hosted the finals of the Throne Cup for the 2024-2025 sports season on Saturday in Rabat. This prestigious event showcased competitions across various disciplines, including amputee football, sitting volleyball, deaf football, and wheelchair basketball, bringing together athletes who exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship and determination.
The sitting volleyball championship saw the Salé Sports Association for People with Disabilities triumph, claiming the Throne Cup title by defeating the Témara Association for Disabled Sports with a decisive score of 3 sets to 0. This victory highlights the skill and dedication of the athletes involved, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity in sports.
In the deaf football category, the Club Sportif des Sourds Muets de Mohammedia emerged victorious, edging out the Union Tanger des Sourds et Muets des Sports with a close score of 3 goals to 2. Meanwhile, the amputee football title was claimed by the Association Fils de Fès for People with Disabilities, who secured their win against the Union Sportive de Tanger for People with Disabilities with a commanding score of 3-0.
Wheelchair basketball also delivered an exciting finale, where the Club Sportif Abnae Al Boughaz for People with Disabilities from Tangier captured the title after defeating the Handisport Souss Association from Agadir with a final score of 49 to 34. These victories not only celebrate the winning teams but also serve as an inspiration for many aspiring athletes in the community.
In a statement to the press, Hamid El Aouni, the president of the FRMSPSH, emphasized the organizational and technical success of the Throne Cup finals, which brought together multiple disciplines in a single day. He highlighted the significant strides made in the development of sports for people with disabilities in Morocco, noting that the federation’s tradition of hosting such finals honors the athletes and showcases their remarkable performances.
El Aouni further elaborated on the positive impact of these competitions, which serve as a platform to underscore the advancements in both performance and organization within disabled sports in Morocco. He noted that several national teams are preparing for important international competitions in the coming months, including the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship set to take place in Canada in September and the Amputee Football World Championship scheduled for Mexico in November.
