Embracing the Richness of Tarab Al Ala in Rabat
Rabat is set to come alive with the vibrant sounds and rhythms of Tarab Al Ala, a musical heritage rooted in the illustrious traditions of Al-Andalus. From July 20 to 22, the capital will host the 9th edition of the regional festival dedicated to this ancient musical art form. This year's theme, "Tarab Al Ala, a Living and Renewed Heritage," coincides with the celebration of the 27th anniversary of the illustrious Throne Festival, underscoring the cultural significance of this event. The festival promises a series of concerts, academic discussions, and tributes to the pioneers of Moroccan Andalusian music, all aimed at reinforcing Tarab Al Ala's position as a cornerstone of Morocco's authentic musical heritage.
A Fusion of Music and Intellectual Discourse
As part of the festival's diverse programming, the official opening ceremony will take place at the Mohammed V Theater, while two evenings of music will be held at the Bahmini Hall. These performances will showcase a variety of orchestras, musicians, and singers who represent the multitude of schools within this art form across Morocco, reflecting the richness of Andalusian traditions throughout the Kingdom. The festival is not only a celebration of music but also an academic endeavor; on July 21, the Mohamed El Fassi Hall will host a scholarly symposium themed "Tarab Al Ala: From Oral Memory to the Challenge of Scientific Documentation." This symposium aims to foster dialogue around the preservation of this ancestral art and to explore methods for safeguarding its legacy for future generations through academic research and scientific documentation. Notably, this edition will honor exceptional individuals who have significantly contributed to the proliferation of Moroccan Andalusian music, creating an emotional moment to recognize those who have elevated this cultural heritage to new heights.
