Honoring the Efforts of King Mohammed VI in Promoting Quranic Education
On Friday, Sheikh Talha Thamin Ahmed, the Director General of the Islamic Sharia Research Development Agency in Nigeria, praised the continuous efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Commander of the Faithful and President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, in serving the Holy Quran and caring for its custodians. This commendation was made during the opening ceremony of the seventh edition of the Quran Memorization, Recitation, and Tajweed Competition, organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, which will take place over three days.
In his address delivered on behalf of the judging panel, Sheikh Talha Ahmed emphasized that this competition exemplifies the spiritual and intellectual unity that binds the children of the African continent in their commitment to Quranic memorization. He described it as a message of peace, security, enlightenment, and guidance that reinforces the noble Islamic values, cultivating in our youth an appreciation for moderation and resilience against the rising tides of discord and conflicting ideologies.
He extended heartfelt gratitude and continuous praise to the President of the Foundation, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for his unwavering support in serving the Quran and honoring its people. Sheikh Talha further elaborated that the competition consists of three categories: complete memorization with the Warsh recitation, complete memorization with other Quranic readings, and memorization of five sections along with Tajweed. The various stages of the competition serve to strengthen the ties among Quranic scholars across the African nations. He noted that the melodious voices of young men and women from Africa reciting the Quran with reverent hearts and sincere tongues inspire hope for a future rooted in the dignity and glory of their heritage.
Promoting Quranic Knowledge and Unity Across Africa
Sheikh Talha affirmed that this diverse level of competition respects the different abilities and environments of memorization and comprehension across various African countries. The Foundation closely monitors the competition from its inception, ensuring that its lofty goals and objectives are met, all in service to the Quran and encouraging its adherents to remain steadfast in their commitment to its teachings and ethics. The seventh edition of the competition is being held virtually and will continue until Sunday, with participants competing for top positions across the three designated categories.
A total of 26 participants will compete in the category of complete memorization of the Quran with recitation according to Warsh from Nafi, while 42 participants will represent the complete memorization category with various recitations and readings. Additionally, 46 competitors will participate in the Tajweed category, each having memorized at least five sections. A judging panel composed of scholars and specialists from Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania, Mauritania, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, and Sudan will evaluate the performance of the participants in person from the city of Fez.
Furthermore, a central technical team from Fez, in coordination with the technical teams from the Foundation's branches across the participating 48 countries, will ensure secure remote connections and broadcast different stages of the competition via visual conferencing technology, allowing participants to engage from their respective countries, ensuring real-time monitoring of the competition's various phases.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars aims, through this annual African competition, to enhance the connection of the emerging and young Muslim Africans with the Holy Quran, encouraging them to memorize, recite, and perfect their Tajweed.
