Over 1,200 Migrants Voluntarily Return to Morocco

In a significant development, more than 1,200 migrants who had been residing at Trampolín Beach in Ceuta have opted to return to Morocco voluntarily. This decision comes in the wake of their evacuation from the beach, where identity checks were conducted near the border over the last two days. According to police sources cited by the Spanish news agency EFE, a notable number of these individuals chose to bypass the Temporary Care Centre for Foreigners (CATE) to head back to their home country, having spent over two months in Ceuta without legal status.

The trend of voluntary returns appears to be growing, with Sunday witnessing a larger number of individuals opting to return compared to Monday. This behavior echoes earlier occurrences when over 150 migrants from Benítez Beach made similar decisions to return to Morocco. Many migrants were dissuaded from undergoing identification processes due to their realization that they lacked valid grounds for international protection, which is a prerequisite for being transferred to government-designated reception centers.
