CGEM Opens Applications for Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates
The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), which has been a pivotal entity representing the interests of Morocco's private sector since its inception in 1947, has officially announced the commencement of the application process for its upcoming elections. This crucial initiative invites candidates to vie for the esteemed positions of president and vice-president general, as the organization gears up for its Elective General Assembly scheduled for May 14, 2026, at 3 p.m. During this assembly, members will cast their votes to determine the new leadership team that will steer the organization into the future.
In accordance with the CGEM's governing statutes and internal regulations, candidates must submit their applications as a joint ticket that consists of two individuals: one aiming for the presidency and the other for the vice-presidency. The application window opened on March 11 and will remain open until April 8 at noon. It is imperative that candidates meet specific eligibility criteria as stipulated by the confederation's rules. These requirements include being Moroccan nationals and serving as the legal representative of either a company that is a direct member of the confederation or a statutory sector federation affiliated with the organization.
Additionally, candidates must not have any criminal convictions and should not currently hold, or have held in the six months preceding their application, any decision-making or executive roles within a political party. Furthermore, the companies represented by the candidates must have maintained active membership in the CGEM for a minimum of three consecutive years, including the current year of the electoral assembly, and must be up to date with their membership contributions.
The candidates' tickets require the endorsement of at least 100 CGEM members whose contributions are current at the time of signing. Importantly, these supporting members must come from at least three different regional structures of the CGEM, with a stipulation that at least 30 percent of the signatures must originate from regions outside of Casablanca.
To submit their applications, candidates must deliver a sealed file to the CGEM headquarters in Casablanca, addressed to the deputy director general of the organization. This file should include a formal declaration of candidacy that identifies both candidates, their curricula vitae, copies of their national identity cards, recent criminal record documents, and any additional materials verifying their eligibility.
The electoral calendar further outlines April 22 as the deadline for members to regularize their contributions, while May 13 is set as the final date for obtaining membership eligibility to partake in the voting process during the assembly.
