Engaging Experiences for Jerusalem's Children in Morocco
On August 22, 2026, in Rabat, children from Jerusalem participating in the seventeenth edition of the "Lighthouse of Peace" camp partook in a variety of sports, cultural, and maritime activities across the cities of Mdiq, Tetouan, and Tangier. This second phase of the camp is organized by the Al-Quds Bayt Mal Agency, under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, who also serves as the head of the Jerusalem Committee. On Saturday, the Royal Sailing Club at the Tangier Marina welcomed the children from Jerusalem, who enjoyed a maritime excursion aboard well-equipped boats adorned with both Moroccan and Palestinian flags, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples.
Before embarking on this sea journey, the children experienced a sporting event on Friday in the city of Mdiq, where they visited the Royal Golf Club. They became familiar with various components of the golf course, including the teeing ground, fairway, rough, and putting green. Under the guidance of professional trainers, they received essential lessons on using different types of golf clubs and took turns striking the golf balls. The experience extended beyond mere gameplay, as the children also learned about the etiquette of golf, which emphasizes respect for other players and the course, as well as discipline, integrity, courtesy, and sportsmanship, ensuring that the game remains safe and enjoyable for all participants and spectators.
A Cultural Exploration in Tetouan
Following their time in Mdiq, the children traveled to the ancient medina of Tetouan, where they wandered through its historic alleys and discovered the unique features of Moroccan architecture, including intricate zellij tiles, authentic mosaics, woodwork, and brass artifacts. The details of the old city evoked a sense of familiarity among the children as they navigated through its streets and markets. The fragrances of orange blossom water, spices, grape leaves, and fresh vegetables reminded them of the vibrant atmosphere of the old markets in Jerusalem. Their visit to Tetouan concluded with a trip to the "Northern Market," a platform for promoting local handicrafts, where the children learned about regional products, medicinal and aromatic herbs, cosmetics, preserves, oils, and honey, alongside traditional pottery and crafts.
Many children and their supervisors expressed their heartfelt gratitude for this annual initiative that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, head of the Jerusalem Committee, has consistently provided for the children of Jerusalem, allowing them to visit Morocco and experience its diverse landscapes, natural beauty, and generous hospitality. Additionally, on Thursday evening, the children enjoyed a recreational evening at an amusement park in Tangier, where they engaged in family-oriented fun with Moroccan families. They delighted in riding roller coasters and merry-go-rounds before transitioning to electronic games and water slides, all within a joyful and jubilant atmosphere. Since its inception in 2008, the Jerusalem Children's Camp has become one of the agency's annual social and educational programs, benefiting 850 children from Jerusalem along with 85 supervisors to date.
