Unique Cultural and Sporting Experiences for Jerusalem's Youth

On August 22, 2026, the children from Jerusalem participating in the seventeenth edition of the "Lighthouse of Peace" camp engaged in a series of enriching sports, cultural, and maritime activities in the cities of Mdiq, Tetouan, and Tangier. This program is part of the second phase of the camp organized by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency, under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, the head of the Jerusalem Committee. The Royal Sailing Club at the Tangier Marina welcomed the children, who enjoyed a scenic boat trip aboard well-equipped vessels adorned with both the Moroccan and Palestinian flags, symbolizing the enduring friendship and solidarity between the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples.

Before embarking on this maritime adventure, the children had an engaging sports experience on Friday in Mdiq, where they visited the Royal Golf Course. They explored various aspects of the course, including the teeing ground, the fairway, the rough, and the green. Under the guidance of professional trainers, they received fundamental lessons on how to use different types of golf clubs and took turns hitting golf balls. However, the experience extended beyond just learning the basics of the game; the children were also educated about the etiquette of golf, which emphasizes respect for fellow players and the course, discipline, honesty, courtesy, and sportsmanship. This instruction ensures that the game is safe and enjoyable for all participants and spectators alike.

Exploring the Rich Heritage of Tetouan

After their time in Mdiq, the Jerusalem children traveled to the old city of Tetouan, where they wandered through its ancient streets and learned about the unique features of Moroccan architecture, including intricate zellige tile work, authentic mosaics, woodwork, and brass crafts. The details of the old city evoked a sense of familiarity among the children as they navigated its narrow alleys and bustling markets, with the aromas of orange blossom water, spices, grape leaves, and fresh vegetables reminiscent of the historic markets of the Old City of Jerusalem. Their visit to Tetouan concluded with a tour of the "Northern Market," a solidarity market that promotes local handicrafts. Here, the children discovered a variety of products including local herbs, aromatic oils, cosmetics, preserves, honey, and traditional ceramic crafts.

Many children and their mentors expressed feelings of gratitude and appreciation for the annual initiative led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which allows the children of Jerusalem to visit Morocco. This experience helps them discover the diversity of the land, the beauty of its nature, and the hospitality of its people. Additionally, on Thursday evening, the children enjoyed a fun-filled evening at an amusement park in Tangier, where they shared joyful moments with Moroccan families. They delighted in rides on roller coasters and flying trains, followed by electronic games and water slides, all set in an atmosphere of joy and celebration. The Jerusalem Children’s Camp, which began in 2008, is one of the annual social and educational programs of the agency and has benefited 850 children from Jerusalem along with 85 mentors since its inception.
