CMA CGM Launches Iberimar: A New Maritime Link Between Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula

CMA CGM Unveils Iberimar Service to Enhance Maritime Connectivity

On July 8, 2026, CMA CGM, a prominent player in the maritime transport industry, announced the launch of a new weekly maritime service named Iberimar. This innovative service aims to strengthen the logistical connections between Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, as detailed in the official release from the French maritime group. The Iberimar service operates on a rotation schedule of 21 days, utilizing a fleet of three vessels that connect seven critical ports including Tanger Med, Algeciras, Vigo, Leixões, Lisbon, Casablanca, and Agadir, before returning to Tanger Med.

The official designation of this service is SSLMED Iberia Morocco Shuttle, and it is designed to significantly enhance the efficiency of cargo transportation across these key regions. By linking the two major Moroccan entry points—Tanger Med and Casablanca, along with the port of Agadir—this new route facilitates improved access to the Iberian Peninsula for Moroccan businesses and exporters.

According to the official service sheet, the Iberimar route initiates with a northern connection from Tanger Med through Algeciras and Vigo, before continuing south to include stops at Leixões, Lisbon, Casablanca, and Agadir. This strategic layout is expected to enhance the reliability of regional services and bolster containerized trade between Moroccan ports and their Iberian counterparts.

Additionally, the published port schedules from CMA CGM affirm the operational presence of the Iberimar service within Moroccan ports, particularly Agadir, and highlight its integration into Morocco's export timelines. This initiative by CMA CGM not only reinforces its regional network around Tanger Med and Algeciras but also positions these hubs as essential facilitators of trade flows between the western Mediterranean, the Atlantic, and the Moroccan, Spanish, and Portuguese markets.
