Colombian Athletes Compete at the Global Para Athletics Grand Prix
The Colombian Para Athletics delegation has arrived in Rabat to participate in the World Grand Prix, scheduled from April 23 to 25. This prestigious event gathers athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual disabilities, marking one of the significant highlights in the international sports calendar. The Colombian contingent comprises nine exceptional Para athletes who will primarily compete in field events such as discus throw, javelin, and shot put. This competition not only showcases their skills but also serves as a vital milestone in their preparation for the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Among the athletes representing Colombia, several notable competitors hail from the Valle del Cauca region, continuing to play a crucial role in the development of Para Athletics in the country. Diego Fernando Meneses is set to compete in both shot put and javelin throw, while José Gregorio Lemos and Luis Fernando Lucumí Villegas will also showcase their talents in javelin. Additionally, Andrés Felipe Mosquera is poised to compete in the discus throw, adding to the region's impressive representation.
The team further includes Xiomara Saldarriaga from Meta, who will compete in the discus throw, Mayerli Buitrago Ariza from Santander in shot put, and Tomás Felipe Soto from Tolima in both javelin and long jump. Levin Moreno Denis from Antioquia will also compete in javelin, while Mauricio Andrés Valencia from Cundinamarca is set to participate in both shot put and javelin. This diverse and talented group is accompanied by national selectors Freiman Leonel Arias and Anyela Rivas, alongside a technical team supported by the Ministry of Sports and the Colombian Paralympic Committee.
