Closing Highlights of the Marrakesh Parliamentary Economic Forum
The fourth edition of the Marrakesh Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions concluded recently in Marrakesh, Morocco. This significant event was organized by the Moroccan House of Councillors in collaboration with the Mediterranean Parliament, alongside the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The forum served as a crucial platform for dialogue among representatives from various countries, focusing on economic collaboration and legislative alignment.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants called for the establishment of a comprehensive and multilateral economic framework for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. A key proposal was the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Center for Artificial Intelligence. This initiative aims to harmonize regional digital legislation while mitigating the security risks associated with artificial intelligence technologies.
Furthermore, the forum launched an initiative for institutional restructuring in collaboration with the World Bank and the IMF. This initiative seeks to enhance free trade, foster economic cooperation, alleviate debt burdens, and finance sustainable growth in accordance with the principles of the World Trade Organization. The forum also emphasized the importance of revitalizing public-private partnerships and mixed financing models, particularly to develop environmentally friendly high-performance computing infrastructure.
Additionally, it encouraged increased collaboration with relevant parliamentary associations in Africa and Latin America, proposing a coordinated framework to explore the potential establishment of a Mediterranean Development Bank. Such initiatives reflect a concerted effort to promote economic resilience and innovation across the regions involved.
