Unraveling a Fraudulent Scheme

In a significant operation, the Judicial Police of the Royal Gendarmerie in Marrakech successfully dismantled a criminal network that specialized in defrauding livestock traders, particularly those dealing with camels. This crackdown was initiated following numerous complaints and was conducted in coordination with the regional leadership of Marrakech, under the directives of the public prosecutor's office. The police managed to apprehend a member of the network, which had been targeting livestock breeders across various regions of Morocco.

According to reports from Hespress, the fraudsters executed their scheme by contacting farmers who advertised their livestock, especially camels, for sale on social media platforms. They would entice these farmers with promises of purchasing large quantities of livestock showcased on their social media pages. The investigation revealed that the suspects would send fake images of bank transfer receipts for the agreed amounts to the bank accounts of the livestock owners before dispatching trucks to collect the animals.

Victims, primarily from the outskirts of Marrakech, later discovered that the receipts they received were counterfeit and that no funds had been deposited into their bank accounts. The investigation indicated that the fraudsters exploited the farmers' trust, as well as their lack of immediate monitoring of their bank accounts after receiving the forged receipts. This made it easier for the criminals to execute their fraudulent activities.

The ongoing investigation has revealed numerous victims who have filed complaints from various locations, including Chichaoua, Ouled Ayad, Attaouia, Tamesna, and Khenifra. The judicial police are actively working to identify and apprehend additional members of the network, ensuring that they are brought to justice and held accountable for their crimes.
