Significant Discoveries at Agadir Melloul
In a remarkable development for the mining sector, British exploration firm Critical Mineral Resources has announced the discovery of high-grade silver, copper, and gold at its Agadir Melloul project located in Morocco. The company recently released assay results from 21 new diamond drill holes, highlighting the exceptional grades found in two specific drill holes, BH 174 and BH 175, which indicate the potential for a significant silver deposit in the region.
Drill hole BH 174 yielded the most impressive results, revealing a 20-centimeter section starting at a depth of 66 meters that contained an astonishing 5,390 grams of silver per ton, alongside 10.24% copper and 2.8 grams of gold per ton. Additionally, this hole averaged 430 grams of silver per ton over a broader 2.6-meter section, reinforcing the area's potential for mineral wealth. Similarly, BH 175 reported 402 grams of silver per ton, 0.72% copper, and 0.36 grams of gold per ton across a one-meter interval. These findings suggest the presence of a distinct silver-rich structure influenced by geological faulting, with BH 174 directly on the fault line and BH 175 situated near a dense network of quartz-carbonate veins. The company emphasizes that further drilling will be necessary to ascertain the orientation, depth, size, and continuity of this promising structure.
Future Plans for Development
The discovery of these high-grade minerals not only enhances the project's appeal but also adds a new dimension to what has primarily been explored for sediment-hosted copper. The company's drilling program has now expanded to encompass 272 holes and 11,347 meters across the property. This builds on a previously identified exploration target that estimates 20 to 25 million tons of mineralized rock, although it is important to note that this figure remains an exploration target and not a certified mineral resource.
Looking ahead, Critical Mineral Resources is evaluating the feasibility of establishing an open-pit mine at the site, with plans to process between 650 to 1,000 tons of ore daily. The company aims for initial production to commence in 2027-2028, contingent on successful economic studies, permitting, and financing. To further explore the extensive silver zone that has been identified, the company is committed to continuing its drilling and geological assessments.
