Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Inaugurates the Monumental Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat-Salé

Mohammed VI Tower: A New Landmark in Morocco's Architectural Landscape

The Mohammed VI Tower stands as a significant symbol of Morocco’s advancement and modernization during the reign of King Mohammed VI. This magnificent structure, which boasts an impressive design, features state-of-the-art conference facilities and a library that showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Moroccan artisans. It is not merely a building, but rather a landmark representing the aspirations and future of the kingdom.

Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan was entrusted with the honor of inaugurating this iconic tower, strategically located on the right bank of the Bouregreg River, thus creating a unique connection between the twin cities of Rabat and Salé. This architectural marvel exemplifies the fusion of contemporary design with elements of Morocco’s rich artisanal heritage, creating a striking addition to the urban landscape.

A Tour of Innovation and Heritage

During the inauguration, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan embarked on a guided tour of the Tower’s impressive array of spaces, engaging with various presentations that highlighted the unique Moroccan materials used in its construction. The tour included visits to a model apartment and the luxurious Waldorf Astoria hotel, culminating in a visit to the Rabat-Salé Heritage Observatory, perched atop the Tower. This observatory offers breathtaking panoramic views of the historical landscapes of Rabat and Salé, where ancient walls, kasbahs, and gates narrate the rich history of these twin cities.

Soaring to a height of 250 meters over 55 stories, the Mohammed VI Tower has redefined the skyline of Rabat. The building is a testament to advanced engineering, seamlessly blending elegant architectural design with stringent environmental standards. It is a crucial element of the Bouregreg Valley development project, part of the broader initiative to transform Rabat into a vibrant cultural capital, aptly named “Rabat City of Light.”

Developed by O Capital Group, the Tower encompasses a luxury hotel, office spaces, residential units, a heritage observatory, a conference hall, and various retail and dining options, all serviced by 36 elevators. The foundation of the Tower extends 60 meters deep, engineered to withstand seismic activity and potential flooding from the river. This ensures the structure’s long-term stability, even in a complex geotechnical setting.

Moreover, the architectural design incorporates innovative harmonic damping systems to mitigate wind and seismic vibrations, enhancing the comfort and stability of its upper-floor residents. The building features two distinct facades—one equipped with dynamic lighting and the other with photovoltaic panels—demonstrating a commitment to green building practices and next-generation technology, which promotes energy efficiency in alignment with Morocco’s sustainable development goals.

In addition to its energy-efficient design, the Mohammed VI Tower integrates advanced systems for energy recovery and rainwater harvesting. These sustainable features have earned the Tower prestigious LEED Gold and HQE certifications, placing it among the most innovative and efficient buildings on the African continent.

Upon his arrival at the Tower, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan was honored with a ceremonial display from a section of the Royal Guard, followed by warm greetings from dignitaries, including local governors and members of the regional council. The event was a significant marker of the continued growth and modernization under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
