On the energy front, Dakhla has achieved full integration into the national electricity grid, with ongoing initiatives aimed at extending this coverage to fishing communities and rural areas throughout the region. Substantial investments in wind and solar energy are also being made to minimize the carbon footprint of the area while harnessing its abundant natural resources. As Hormatollah highlighted, these projects are integral to the region's sustainable development.
In addition to energy advancements, water and agricultural sectors are also experiencing significant changes. A groundbreaking 5,000-hectare irrigation project utilizing desalinated seawater, supported by an investment of approximately 2.5 billion dirhams, is establishing a modern, export-focused agricultural zone. The associated desalination facility is reported to be more than 85% complete, ensuring a reliable supply of both drinking water and irrigation for the region's increasing population. Further, urban development initiatives, healthcare improvements, educational enhancements, sports infrastructure, and cooperative employment programs for youth and women are all part of a broader development agenda that Hormatollah believes will have a transformative socioeconomic impact across the entire Southern Provinces.
