Dayet Erroumi: A Nature Retreat Popular Among Vacationers Post-Aïd al-Adha

Dayet Erroumi: A Natural Paradise for Holidaymakers

On the day following Aïd al-Adha, the serene Dayet Erroumi lake, located near Khémisset, drew an impressive number of visitors eager to bask in its refreshing ambiance and lush green surroundings. This surge in popularity not only highlights the lake's appeal but also reignites calls for enhanced conservation efforts for this vital natural ecosystem.

Situated approximately 100 kilometers east of Rabat and about 15 kilometers southeast of Khémisset, Dayet Erroumi is recognized as Morocco's only permanent low-altitude continental lake, classified as a site of biological and ecological interest (SIBE). On this Thursday, the lake was bustling with campers, families, and nature enthusiasts who flocked to this iconic spot, particularly in light of recent rainfall that has replenished its waters. With a depth now nearing 20 meters, the lake provided a picturesque backdrop characterized by its tranquil waters and vibrant vegetation.

From the early morning hours, visitors from Khémisset, Kénitra, and Casablanca set up camp along the lake's edge. The influx can be attributed to the holiday breaks associated with Aïd as well as the desire to escape the recent sweltering heat. The invigorating environment of Dayet Erroumi, rejuvenated by recent rains, has become a cherished destination for those seeking outdoor adventures, picnics, forest walks, fishing, and various water activities.

Speaking to _Le360_, Ayoub, a young camper from Casablanca, shared that choosing Dayet Erroumi for the second day of the celebration was a natural decision. "We opted to come to Dayet Erroumi because it is one of the most beautiful relaxation spots in the region," he remarked. His sentiments were echoed by Yassine El Ouali, another visitor who appreciated the friendly and familial atmosphere of the location, stating, "People come here to unwind in a very pleasant natural setting." However, he also urged for increased efforts toward the preservation of the area, calling on local authorities to enhance maintenance, cleanliness, and the promotion of this highly sought-after natural site. He said, "We hope that more resources will be allocated to protect and better maintain this natural space," as calls for the safeguarding of this delicate ecosystem continue to grow over the years.
