Delair's Strategic Move to Morocco
Delair, a prominent French drone manufacturer, has announced the opening of a new subsidiary in Morocco, named Delair Africa, which is set to serve as its headquarters for operations across the African continent. This development underscores Morocco's growing appeal as a hub for defense industries and highlights Delair's commitment to expanding its market reach within Africa. The choice of Rabat as the site for this new entity is strategic; the capital city houses key government ministries and is the center for negotiating major defense and security contracts, which align perfectly with Delair's business objectives.
Rabat's proximity to Casablanca, which boasts an international airport, additionally enhances connectivity, allowing Delair Africa to efficiently service clients across the continent from a centralized location. Initially, the new subsidiary will employ approximately ten staff members tasked with providing logistical support to regional clients, a service previously managed from the company's operations in Toulouse, France.
Delair’s African Strategy and Expansion
The establishment of Delair Africa is part of a broader African strategy that the company has meticulously developed since the early 2010s. Delair's foray into the African market began with the delivery of its first drones to Niger in 2019, and since then, the company has expanded its clientele to include countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Chad, Mauritania, Benin, and Morocco. Notably, the Royal Gendarmerie of Morocco had previously acquired around fifteen DT-26 drones in 2021 for border surveillance, showcasing the growing integration of advanced drone technology within Morocco's security framework.
This move to open a subsidiary in Morocco is also part of Delair's international expansion strategy, which has seen the company establish a branch in Ukraine in the previous year. As Delair continues to grow its footprint in Africa, it not only enhances its operational capabilities but also contributes to the evolving landscape of defense technology in the region.
