DGSN Celebrates 70 Years with Open Days in Rabat
On May 18, 2026, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) inaugurated the seventh edition of its Open Days in Rabat, a significant event coinciding with the 70th anniversary of its establishment and the unveiling of its new headquarters in the capital city. The opening ceremony was presided over by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit and the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, alongside numerous government officials, high-ranking security and judicial authorities, and distinguished international guests.
This year’s Open Days, which will run until May 22, aim to foster closer ties between the police institution and the citizens. The event is designed to educate the public about the various missions of the DGSN's units, showcasing the human, technical, and logistical resources dedicated to ensuring the safety of individuals and property, as well as maintaining public order. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with security personnel and witness demonstrations of the equipment and tools employed by the police force, gaining insights into the diverse professions and operational specialties within the DGSN.
Commissioner Rida Chbouh, representing the DGSN, emphasized that this initiative builds upon the success of previous editions, aiming to strengthen the trust between citizens and security institutions, while enhancing the overall sense of safety in the community. He noted that May is a commemorative month for the DGSN, reflecting a commitment to national values and dedication to the security of the nation and its people. This anniversary also serves as a moment to honor the pioneering generation of national security officers, while reinforcing connections across successive generations of police officers around the rallying cry: “All for a secure Morocco.”
Moreover, this edition follows the recent inauguration of DGSN's new headquarters in Rabat, which provides law enforcement with a modern working environment, enabling them to execute their duties under optimal conditions, particularly regarding the protection of citizens and the safety of both residents and foreign visitors. The event featured a video presentation chronicling the history of the DGSN and showcased various police and security professions through engaging demonstrations.
During the ceremony, several royal honors were awarded to exemplary national security officials, and tributes were paid to former DGSN directors, including Bouchaib Rmail, Cherki Drais, Hafid Benhachem, M’hammed Dryef, and Ahmed El Midaoui. Prior to the official launch of the seventh edition, a site visit was conducted at the new DGSN headquarters, allowing national and international figures, as well as media representatives, to explore the facilities of this modern infrastructure.
The Open Days initiative, which began in September 2017 in Casablanca, has become an annual tradition connecting the police with the public. After successful events in cities such as Marrakech, Tangier, Fes, Agadir, and El Jadida, this year’s gathering in Rabat offers citizens a unique opportunity to interact with national security agents and deepen their understanding of the institution’s responsibilities.
