Dismantling of a Terror Cell Linked to ISIS Operating Between Morocco and Spain

On March 25, 2026, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), part of Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, successfully dismantled a terrorist cell affiliated with the ISIS organization. This operation was executed in collaboration with the General Information Commissariat (CGI) of the Spanish National Police. The joint effort resulted in the arrest of three extremist individuals operating across the Moroccan-Spanish border.

The BCIJ reported that this significant security operation is part of ongoing collaborative efforts and mutual investigations carried out by Moroccan and Spanish security services. The primary objective is to mitigate the risks posed by terrorist threats and to dismantle extremist networks that jeopardize the security of both nations. The concurrent field operations led to the arrest of two suspects in Tangier by members of the special forces of Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, while Spanish authorities apprehended the leader of this terror cell in Majorca.

For judicial purposes, the two suspects detained in Tangier have been placed under provisional custody, pending an investigation overseen by the public prosecutor responsible for terrorism cases. This investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the network's operations and its connections both nationally and regionally.

This latest security operation underscores a long-standing history of cooperative security work between Moroccan and Spanish authorities. Since 2014, over 30 terrorist cells have been dismantled between the two countries, significantly thwarting serious threats and foiling dangerous plots that could have endangered their respective national securities.
