ONMT Partners with EasyJet to Enhance Air Travel Capacity
In a significant boost to Morocco's tourism and air travel infrastructure, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has launched EasyJet's first African base at Marrakech Menara Airport. This pivotal development, inaugurated on April 15, 2026, by ONMT's Director General Achraf Fayda and EasyJet's Kenton Jarvis, marks a strategic step towards increasing connectivity and accommodating a growing number of European tourists.
The establishment of this base is set to deploy three aircraft and introduce six new flight routes, targeting an impressive capacity of up to 4 million seats within the first operational year. The initiative aims to enhance the inflow of travelers from key European markets, thereby stimulating the local economy and fortifying Morocco's position as a prominent tourist destination.
Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Impact
With the addition of six new routes, the total number of connections from Morocco to major European cities will rise to 58. Starting from winter 2026, travelers can expect direct flights linking Marrakech to Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich, with additional routes to Nantes-Essaouira, Bordeaux-Agadir, and Birmingham-Agadir set to launch in spring 2026. Furthermore, existing routes to Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg will become year-round services, ensuring consistent air connectivity throughout the year.
This expansion reflects EasyJet’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Morocco, now operating in five Moroccan airports: Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier. The airline is now positioned as the leading carrier from the UK and Switzerland to Morocco and the third-largest airline operating within the country.
The establishment of the EasyJet base is expected to generate approximately 100 direct jobs, alongside numerous indirect employment opportunities within the local tourism ecosystem. This strategic partnership, which commenced in autumn 2025, is designed to solidify Morocco's air connectivity, diversify its tourist markets, and support a balanced growth trajectory for the tourism sector. Additionally, the collaboration includes the development of EasyJet holidays, which currently lists over 70 accommodations in Marrakech.
