EasyJet Expands Its Horizons: New Base Launches in Marrakech

EasyJet Launches Its First African Base in Marrakech

On April 15, 2026, EasyJet officially inaugurated its first operational base in Africa at Marrakech Menara Airport, marking a significant expansion for the low-cost airline in Morocco. The launch event was graced by the presence of the Director of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), highlighting the partnership between the airline and the government to bolster tourism in the region. With three aircraft stationed permanently at the airport, EasyJet's ambitious goal is to offer four million seats within the first year of operations. This strategic move aims to significantly enhance travel connections between Morocco and Europe, thereby stimulating tourism growth in the Kingdom.

Expansion of Routes and Economic Impact

As part of its expansion plan, EasyJet has introduced six new routes that will commence in winter 2026. Travelers will soon have direct flights from Marrakech to cities such as Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich. The following spring, flights will also be available to Essaouira and Agadir from Nantes, Bordeaux, and Birmingham. This increased connectivity positions EasyJet as the third-largest airline operator in Morocco, further establishing its footprint in the North African aviation market. The local impact of this initiative is already evident, with the creation of approximately 100 direct jobs, contributing to the local economy. The ONMT emphasizes that this growth will also enhance the "easyJet holidays" offering in Marrakech, which currently includes over 70 selected hotels in the area, providing travelers with more diverse accommodation options.

Having established a presence in Morocco since 2006, EasyJet has already transported nearly 20 million passengers to the country. This new operational hub not only confirms EasyJet’s status as a leader in the British and Swiss markets but also demonstrates its commitment to sustainable growth and year-round flight availability. The airline's efforts are expected to play a crucial role in promoting Morocco as a desirable travel destination, particularly as the country recorded a remarkable influx of 16.6 million visitors by the end of October 2025.
