In a landmark move, easyJet, the renowned low-cost airline, has announced a substantial investment ranging from 2.5 to 3 billion dirhams to establish its inaugural base outside of Europe, located in the vibrant city of Marrakech. This strategic development underscores the growing allure of the Moroccan tourism market, reflecting a robust partnership between easyJet and Morocco aimed at enhancing travel opportunities and boosting local economies.

Kenton Jarvis, the airline's managing director, emphasized that the launch of this new base is the product of a shared vision and a strong collaborative effort with Moroccan authorities, particularly in alignment with the long-term partnership with the Moroccan National Tourism Office. During a press briefing held at Marrakech Menara Airport, Jarvis articulated that this venture marks a pivotal step in expanding the airline's operational footprint in the region. The initiative is poised to broaden travel offerings for customers, encompassing both flights and vacation packages, while simultaneously invigorating the local economy through increased tourism activity and job creation.

Significant Economic Impact and New Flight Routes

Currently, easyJet operates in five Moroccan airports, including Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira, and Tangier. The new base, which will accommodate three aircraft, is projected to deliver a remarkable supply of up to four million seats in its first year of operation. Moreover, this project is expected to generate approximately 100 direct jobs, alongside thousands of indirect employment opportunities, further enhancing the economic and tourism dynamics in the region. This aligns with Morocco's ambition to solidify its status as a premier global tourist destination.
