EasyJet Expands Flight Options to Marrakech
In an exciting development for travelers, the low-cost airline EasyJet has significantly enhanced its services between France and Morocco by introducing two new direct routes connecting Lille and Strasbourg to Marrakech. These flights, inaugurated on May 3, 2026, will operate year-round, with each route offering two flights per week. Specifically, flights from Lille-Lesquin (LIL) are scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays, while those from Strasbourg-Entzheim (SXB) will take off on Thursdays and Sundays. Passengers can expect a flight duration of approximately three and a half hours, providing a quick and convenient way to reach the vibrant city known as the "Red City." EasyJet's expansion into these routes is set to create competition with Volotea, which currently serves similar destinations.
Marrakech: A Strategic Hub for EasyJet
This move aligns with EasyJet's broader strategy to bolster its operations in Marrakech-Menara (RAK), which is emerging as a key African base for the airline. With plans to station aircraft at this location, EasyJet aims to expand its network to include at least 24 destinations across Europe, including Hamburg, Lille, and Strasbourg, ultimately offering more than 50 routes throughout Morocco. For Moroccan authorities, this expansion is pivotal in enhancing air connectivity with Europe, particularly with France, which accounts for about 29% of all tourist arrivals in the Kingdom.
Marrakech has long been a favored destination for French travelers seeking short- to medium-term stays, thanks to its rich cultural and urban tourism offerings. The city, once an imperial capital, entices visitors with its fortified medina, stunning palaces, lush gardens, and bustling souks, all set against a backdrop of sunny weather year-round. EasyJet highlights a typical short-stay itinerary that includes exploring the medina, visiting the vibrant Jemaa el-Fna square, wandering through the souks, and experiencing the tranquil beauty of the Majorelle Garden and the historic Koutoubia Mosque. Tourism experts generally recommend spending two to three days getting to know the city and four to five days to venture into the nearby Atlas Mountains, the Ourika Valley, or the desert.
Furthermore, EasyJet offers comprehensive holiday packages through its subsidiary, EasyJet Holidays, which includes round-trip flights, accommodation, and additional services. These packages feature a 23 kg checked baggage allowance per person and transfers between Marrakech-Menara Airport and accommodations, ensuring a seamless travel experience. Notable accommodations include charming riads situated within the medina, such as the Jardins de la Médina and Riad Zahrat Al Sahara, showcasing the allure of a "riad of charm" for visitors to this enchanting destination.
