Mouhssine Lghzoui Takes the Helm of the National Press Council
On the evening of September 21, 2026, Mouhssine Lghzoui was elected as the new president of the National Press Council in Morocco, securing 11 votes against his competitor Abdullah Boukali, who received 3 votes. Other elected members included Kabir Khechichan, Mounia Arshi, Nadia Hassisou, and Aziza Ghlam. The turnout for this election was notable, with a participation rate of 49.14%, involving 1,681 journalists out of 3,421 registered voters.
In terms of the publishers' category, the newly elected council includes Mouhssine Lghzoui, Bahia Al Omrani, Souad Mekawi, Mehdi Alaboush, Aziz Daki, Idriss Shehtan, and Khalid Al Hariri. With Lghzoui's presidency now confirmed, the National Press Council is poised to embark on its critical mission concerning the self-regulation of the journalism and publishing professions, while also addressing various professional and organizational issues pertinent to the sector.
