Temporary Suspension of Flights to Morocco

easyJet has announced a temporary halt to two of its routes to Morocco during the peak of the winter season for 2026-2027. The affected services, connecting Basel-Mulhouse to Tangier and London Southend to Marrakech, will be suspended for a period of three to four weeks. Specifically, the first route interruption will impact travelers flying between Basel-Mulhouse and Tangier, with no easyJet flights scheduled on this route from January 20 to February 11, 2027, effectively closing this connection for just over three weeks.

Additionally, the airline will also suspend its service between London Southend and Marrakech from January 10 to February 8, 2027. This interruption will last nearly a month, as outlined in a report published by AeroRoutes, following a comparison of the schedules submitted by easyJet on June 14 and August 23, 2026.

It is important to note that these suspensions are not permanent. Both Moroccan routes are expected to resume operations after the specified periods. These adjustments are part of a broader strategy by easyJet to modify its winter schedule, affecting numerous European destinations. Most of these routes will see interruptions lasting approximately four weeks, primarily between January and February. However, some services are being dropped for the entire season or are permanently removed from the airline's network.

easyJet's Expansion in Morocco

The timing of these two route suspensions coincides with easyJet's significant expansion efforts in Morocco. Earlier this year, the airline launched its first African base in Marrakech, where three Airbus A320 aircraft are currently stationed. The carrier aims to offer four million seats within the first year of operations at this base, which is accompanied by the introduction of new routes and the transformation of several seasonal services into year-round connections, particularly linking Lille and Strasbourg to Marrakech.

In parallel, easyJet has scheduled new flights to Agadir and Essaouira for the winter of 2026-2027. Therefore, the suspensions of the Basel-Tangier and London Southend-Marrakech routes appear to be temporary adjustments within a generally strengthened Moroccan network. Travelers wishing to utilize these two routes between January and February will need to consider alternative dates, choose a different departure airport, or opt for a competing airline during the affected periods.
