Strengthening Ties: Egyptian Ambassador Meets with Community in Tetouan
On September 6, 2026, Ahmed Nahid Abdel Latif, the Egyptian Ambassador to Morocco, met with members of the Egyptian community residing in Tetouan and Tangier. This meeting, aimed at discussing the situation of the expatriate community, provided a platform for addressing their proposals and needs. The gathering was significant, particularly in the wake of the first round of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee, which took place in April in Cairo, where 13 cooperation agreements were signed across various sectors.
During the meeting, Ambassador Abdel Latif emphasized the vital role that the Egyptian community plays in enhancing communication between Egypt and Morocco. He commended the contributions made by community organizations in fostering bilateral relations. Furthermore, he presented several initiatives launched by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in collaboration with other governmental entities to benefit Egyptians living abroad. These initiatives include 'Your Home in Egypt', 'Your Farm in Egypt', 'Open Your Account in Egypt', 'Your School in Egypt', 'Your Healthcare in Egypt', along with the 'Your Pension Tomorrow in Dollars' program, and the 'Update Your Banking Customer Data' initiative.
The ambassador also highlighted efforts to develop and digitize consular services, aiming to significantly reduce processing times for transactions and the issuance of official documents. Notably, he mentioned that the timeframe for issuing passports has been cut to less than two weeks, alongside a reduced duration for the issuance of computerized birth certificates.
During the discussions, the ambassador welcomed feedback from community members on various issues related to their residency in Morocco, exploring their needs and avenues for improving the services provided to them. The talks also encompassed proposals to enhance trade, cultural, and educational relations between Egypt and Morocco, as well as ways to strengthen communication among the Egyptian community across different Moroccan cities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed their appreciation for the embassy's efforts in fostering direct communication with community members and addressing their concerns.
