Surprise Inclusion in Germany's Squad

The forward from Eintracht Frankfurt, Ebnoutalib, has emerged as one of the unexpected selections in Jürgen Klopp's national team lineup. His decision to represent Germany has not been well received by the Moroccan Football Federation, particularly since Ebnoutalib has ties to Morocco through his father, who was born there. Until now, he was eligible to play for both nations, and the Moroccan authorities had been intensively pursuing the young player, believing they had a significant chance of securing his commitment.

Mixed Reactions from Moroccan Officials

Coach Mohamed Ouahbi, along with the leadership of the Moroccan Football Federation, has been monitoring Ebnoutalib for almost three years. In a recent statement, Ouahbi expressed his doubts that Germany had been as diligent in tracking the player. He recounted a conversation he had with Ebnoutalib, during which he explained the Moroccan project in hopes of persuading him to choose his father's homeland. Despite acknowledging that Ebnoutalib earned his nomination, the coach expressed disappointment over the player's choice, wishing him luck while subtly taunting Klopp's squad by highlighting Morocco's superior position in the FIFA World Rankings—currently sixth, compared to Germany's twelfth.

However, Morocco's federation appeared reluctant to let go of Ebnoutalib so easily. According to reports from Bild, they sent the forward an official invitation to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup qualifiers, despite his prior declaration of intent to play for Germany. Klopp, on the other hand, seems unfazed by the situation. The new German national team coach is convinced of Ebnoutalib's abilities. In a recent press conference, he shared his astonishment at the player’s capabilities after watching his debut for Frankfurt, stating, "Where did they find this guy?" He was particularly impressed by Ebnoutalib's playing style, intelligence on the field, and readiness to take on challenges, describing him as an extraordinary talent. It became evident within the coaching staff that nominating him was an obvious choice, as Klopp explained, "It was clear to us that we had to include him."
