El-Jadida Hosts the 5th Marrakech Platform Meeting on Counterterrorism in Africa
The fifth edition of the high-level meeting for heads of counterterrorism and security agencies in Africa, known as the "Marrakech Platform," commenced on Tuesday in El Jadida. This significant event is co-chaired by Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), focusing on enhancing security cooperation, sharing expertise, and strengthening African capacities in the face of evolving terrorist threats across the continent.
This two-day gathering brings together representatives from approximately forty African intelligence and security services, alongside ninety delegations from the Middle East, Europe, America, and Asia, participating as observers. The involvement of representatives from regional UN institutions further underscores the importance of this meeting.
Amid a backdrop of persistent and evolving terrorist threats in Africa, this meeting builds on previous editions held in Marrakech (2022), Tangier (2023), Fez (2024), and Agadir (2025). The strong interest from both African nations and international partners reaffirms the central role of the Marrakech Platform in promoting the exchange of expertise, consolidating regional cooperation, and identifying priorities for capacity building in the fight against terrorism in Africa.
