Arrests Amidst the Electoral Process in Marrakech
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, law enforcement authorities in Marrakech apprehended several individuals suspected of engaging in actions that could disrupt the electoral process in various areas surrounding the city. These arrests were a part of ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity and fairness of the elections. Further investigations led to the arrest of an individual in Douar Al-Nazala, located within the Taslalt municipality, on suspicions of involvement in activities related to the electoral process. Another arrest occurred in Douar Al-Kadiya in Gueliz, where an individual was suspected of attempting to obstruct the voting process. Moreover, a young man was detained near a polling center in Douar Zmarn, situated in the Taslalt municipality, on similar grounds of interfering with the electoral proceedings.
These developments coincided with the ongoing voting activities at polling centers across Marrakech, where participation rates reached approximately 10% by midday, according to available data. The city is equipped with a total of 334 polling centers, and the number of registered voters stands at 533,336.
In the Al-Haouz region, voter turnout was recorded at 25.5% by 3 PM, with the voting process continuing smoothly across various polling stations in the district. The authorities are committed to ensuring that the electoral process remains transparent and free from any malpractice that could undermine the democratic values at play.
