Strengthening Local Governance Through Collaborative Efforts
On Wednesday, March 25, a significant consultative meeting took place in the Wyrkan community, aimed at collaboratively preparing a program for openness. This initiative is part of the efforts to enhance the support for open local governments overseen by the Ministry of Interior. The meeting was organized to implement directives aimed at reinforcing the openness of local communities to their surroundings and solidifying principles of good governance and participatory democracy. The objective is to engage various local stakeholders in shaping public policies at the local level.
The event saw the participation of numerous elected officials and civil society representatives. Workshops were organized to focus on the preparation, monitoring, and evaluation of the openness program. Furthermore, discussions revolved around activating principles of equality, equal opportunities, and gender approaches in managing local affairs.
The atmosphere during the meeting was notably positive, with the event being deemed successful due to the high level of interaction and participation. This gathering provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives and propose practical solutions that could enhance local stakeholders' involvement in development processes, fostering a more open and transparent communal model.
In December 2025, the Wyrkan community joined the Moroccan network for open local governments, which was established on October 21, 2022. This network currently comprises 310 local entities, including 12 regions and 71 regional councils, along with 281 municipalities. The Moroccan network for open local governments serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange of experiences aimed at promoting the principles of openness, which include transparency, accountability, the right to access information, citizen participation, and digitalization.
It is important to note that this program is implemented under the supervision of the General Directorate of Local Authorities at the Ministry of Interior, in partnership with regional associations across Morocco.
