Enhancing Global Security: A Look at African Lion 26 Military Exercises

During the African Lion 26 exercise on May 4, 2026, a Long-Range Precision Munition drone was successfully launched at Cap Draa, located in Tan-Tan, Morocco. This event was part of a comprehensive command field exercise designed to enhance the capabilities of special operations forces alongside multinational partners. The deep attack training scenario aims to increase interoperability among participating forces, test cutting-edge intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, as well as lethal effect systems. Moreover, it seeks to refine tactical approaches for large-scale combat operations and counterterrorism efforts across the diverse operational environments of Africa.

African Lion 26 (AL26) stands as the largest annual joint exercise organized by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). Its primary objective is to bolster the collective security capabilities of the United States, African nations, and global allies. The exercise, which took place from April 20 to May 8, 2026, was led by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) and hosted across several nations including Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. In total, over 5,600 military personnel from more than 40 countries participated, showcasing a commitment to innovation and collaborative regional security efforts.

This military initiative, captured in the B-Roll footage titled "Special operations forces integrate emerging technology during African Lion 26 deep attack training," produced by PO2 Samuel Wagner and available through DVIDS, illustrates the importance of adhering to the guidelines outlined on their copyright page, which can be found at dvidshub.net.
