Enhancing Military Collaboration: Insights from African Lion 26

Strengthening Global Security Through Education

The African Lion 26 (AL26) exercise kicked off with a robust series of classroom sessions held at the Southern Zone Headquarters in Agadir, Morocco, on April 24, 2026. This year's multinational academic engagement drew in approximately 400 participants, spanning over 20 diverse military subjects. The initiative aimed to cultivate a shared understanding of best practices among the armed forces of participating nations, thereby enhancing their collective operational effectiveness.

As the largest annual joint exercise conducted by U.S. Africa Command, AL26 plays a pivotal role in fortifying the security capabilities of the United States, African nations, and their global allies. The exercise, orchestrated by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), is scheduled from April 20 through May 8, 2026, across multiple host nations, including Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. With a participation of over 5,600 military and civilian personnel representing more than 40 countries, AL26 exemplifies a commitment to innovation and collaboration in addressing regional security challenges. The event underscores the importance of partnership in fostering stability and resilience in the region, paving the way for a safer future through shared knowledge and cooperative efforts.
