Enhancing Student Integration: Insights from the II Day of Moroccan Student Community

Fostering University Integration for Moroccan Students

On May 15, 2026, the V Centenary Space hosted the "II Day of Community for Students of Moroccan Origin," an initiative spearheaded by the Student Participation and Representation Secretariat aimed at supporting first-year students in their university integration process. The event was inaugurated by Juan Luís Benítez Muñoz, the Vice-Rector for Students and University Life, alongside José Antonio Pareja, the director of the Secretariat. A significant portion of the day involved technical staff from various university services who provided essential information on the fundamental resources that the University of Granada (UGR) offers to enhance students' academic and personal success.

Among the critical resources highlighted were the Scholarship Service, housing options, and the Psychopedagogical Cabinet, which offers various services and workshops designed to assist students. Additionally, the event introduced tools for student participation such as the Intelligent University Card (TUI), computer loans, and student associations, as well as guidance on basic immigration procedures. The presence of the Director of Academic Guidance and Student Services underscored the importance of the Transition Program at UGR, which strives to provide personalized support tailored to individual needs.

Building Connections Across Borders

Another vital component of the day was a simultaneous video conference connecting attendees with their former guidance teams and heads of Spanish institutes and schools in Morocco, including Melchor de Jovellanos (Alhucemas), Juan Ramón Jiménez (Casablanca), Luis Vives (Larache), Lope de Vega (Nador), Severo Ochoa (Tánger), and Nuestra Señora del Pilar (Tetuán), as well as the Spanish School of Rabat. This historic opportunity stems from the strong collaboration UGR maintains with the Education Department in Morocco. Furthermore, the Association of Friends of Morocco and the Moroccan Students Association (AMUS) facilitated a dialogue space focused on addressing the primary challenges that may arise during the initial years of university life and discussing effective strategies to overcome them.

This initiative not only enables new students to connect directly with the experiences of veteran students who can guide them through the inclusive process but also reaffirms the institution's commitment to fostering coexistence and mutual support within the university community. This commitment is crucial in ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, feel welcomed and supported as they embark on their academic journeys.
