Severe Crackdown in Occupied El Aaiún
The Moroccan occupation has exacerbated a serious and ongoing wave of repression in the occupied city of El Aaiún, coinciding with the Sahrawi people's commemoration of May 20, the anniversary of the outbreak of armed struggle in Western Sahara. Reports from the ground indicate that Moroccan occupying forces have, for the second consecutive day, imposed a strict siege on the homes of Sahrawi activists, creating an atmosphere of intimidation, oppression, and provocation. This crackdown is reportedly supervised by known torturers infamous for their suppression of Sahrawi activists in the occupied territories, marking a direct assault on these individuals fighting for their rights.
Among the homes under siege are those of Al-Hussein Al-Majahid, where activist Ali Salem Tamek resides, and the Ahl Borial family home, located near the Bir Enzaràn school. Both residences are currently surrounded by Moroccan police forces, who have also cut off the electricity supply to these homes as a form of retaliation.
Furthermore, activist Um Saad Borial, sister of civil prisoner Mohamed Borial, has received death threats from the occupying forces. Additionally, individuals such as Al-Bashir Baramoud, Al-Maalouma Felnkhi, and his daughter Al-Khalifa Al-Mujahid were barred from entering the besieged home. In a similar vein, activists Al-Khalifa Al-Mujahid, Al-Khalifa Al-Rakibi, Khadjato El Douai, and Nabiha Boun have also faced direct threats from elements within the Moroccan occupying forces. This ongoing campaign underscores Morocco's systematic policy of harassment and intimidation against unarmed Sahrawi activists and their families.
