Essential Travel Tips for Moroccans Returning Home: AP-7 Highway Checks

Increased Traffic Enforcement on AP-7 Highway for Moroccan Travelers

As the summer season approaches, Moroccan expatriates traveling back to their homeland are advised to pay careful attention to their vehicle's weight and condition. The Catalan police, known as Mossos d'Esquadra, are intensifying their inspections along the AP-7 highway, a major route for Moroccans returning from Europe, particularly during the Operation Passage of the Strait. This heightened scrutiny is aimed at preventing overloaded vehicles and unsafe cargo, ensuring a safe journey for all travelers.

The police presence along the AP-7 has been significantly increased, and these checks are expected to continue throughout the weekend, focusing primarily on heavily loaded cars and vans. Officers are not only assessing the weight of the vehicles but also examining how luggage and goods are secured. Other critical checks include the condition of tires, seatbelt use in both front and back seats, child safety seats, and the validity of transportation documents and permits.

In addition to stationary roadblocks, the Mossos have implemented mobile checkpoints, deployed teams to service areas, and even utilized helicopters to monitor traffic conditions. A recent video highlighted the inspection of a heavily loaded van en route to Morocco, showcasing the thoroughness of these checks.

The preliminary results of these operations indicate that four violations for exceeding weight limits were recorded, along with three infractions related to transportation regulations. Additionally, twenty-one individuals were fined for not wearing seatbelts or lacking child restraint systems, and one bus was halted due to insufficient authorization.

For Moroccan expatriates, the message from Spanish authorities is clear: an overloaded vehicle, poorly secured luggage, or incomplete documentation can jeopardize their journey well before they arrive at the port. Travelers are encouraged to ensure their vehicles are compliant with all regulations to avoid unnecessary complications on their way home.
