Formation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Morocco
On July 16, 2026, the Parliamentary Friendship Group (GPA) with the Kingdom of Morocco was officially established in the Delia Parodi Room of the Legislative Palace. This significant initiative will be led by Deputy Lorena Macyszyn from the LLA party, who expressed her enthusiasm and pride in presiding over such an important group. Macyszyn emphasized the often-underestimated role of parliamentary diplomacy, asserting that parliamentarians possess the unique ability to foster relationships, build trust, and collaborate towards fruitful exchanges between nations.
During her speech, Macyszyn highlighted Morocco's demand for various Argentine products, including fertilizers, and underscored the potential for mutual growth across multiple sectors. She stated, "We can create new opportunities for our producers by promoting frameworks of predictability and developing connections that enhance trade."
Importance of Diplomatic Relations
The Moroccan Ambassador, S.E. Fares Yassir, also addressed the gathering, expressing his delight in returning to the Legislative Palace and the mutual respect and trust that characterize the relationship between Argentina and Morocco. He noted the significant value of the Moroccan community residing in Argentina and the diverse avenues through which the GPA can operate, extending beyond mere commercial interests. Yassir further stressed the importance of Morocco’s digital and technological advancements in facilitating trade, asserting that Argentina will always find in Morocco a committed partner eager to build sectoral bridges.
Deputy Álvaro González from the PRO party praised Ambassador Yassir's efforts, recounting how his engagement has deepened his understanding of parliamentary diplomacy. Similarly, Deputy Patricia Holzman reaffirmed her support and commitment to ensuring meaningful activities within the group. Other deputies, including Rubén Torres, María Luisa González Estevarena, and María Cecilia Ibáñez, echoed these sentiments, indicating a strong bipartisan commitment to this initiative. Additionally, Deputy Pablo Farías from the Provincias Unidas bloc highlighted the significance of regional exchanges, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and support from his province of Santa Fe.
