Discover a New Perspective on Rabat's Medina
The Medina of Rabat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has recently unveiled an innovative tool designed to enrich the exploration of its historical and architectural significance. Published by Éditions Bouillon de Culture, the new guide titled "La Médina de Rabat" consists of two complementary booklets aimed at both residents and visitors, allowing for a deeper understanding of this vibrant heritage.
Under the direction of editor Rita Baddou, the project aspires to transcend conventional tourism. The goal is to promote mindful exploration of the streets, buildings, and intricate details that define the identity of the old city. The guide combines historical information, architectural elements, illustrations, photographs, and suggested walks, creating a comprehensive resource that invites readers to engage with their surroundings on a profound level.
Two Booklets to Navigate the Medina
The first booklet, titled "Regard sur la médina de Rabat," delves into the origins and evolution of the city, detailing its topography, history, and various architectural styles. It provides insights into traditional doors, houses, and decorative elements, equipping readers with the knowledge to better appreciate the heritage encountered as they stroll through the streets.
The second booklet, "4 parcours dans la médina de Rabat," transforms this knowledge into a tangible experience. It presents four routes designed for both children and adults, encouraging walkers to observe their environment attentively, identify the elements discussed in the first booklet, and pay special attention to architectural details. This interactive approach not only enhances the experience of discovering the medina but also fosters a sense of connection to its historical narrative.
The guide includes contributions from author and illustrator Emmanuelle Peckre, as well as author and photographer Karine Hazera. Scientific proofreading was conducted by Nabil Rahmouni and Maria El Glaoui, while Salima S. El Mandjra penned the preface. Aimed at the general public aged 10 and above, this resource is also suitable for families, teachers, and students. With each booklet comprising 177 pages, they are sold together for 400 dirhams and can be found in various bookstores across Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, and Agadir.
