Bonn/Berlin, September 1, 2026 – At the upcoming Fruit Attraction event, scheduled from October 6 to 8 in Madrid, the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) will showcase a diverse range of products from 24 companies hailing from Africa and South America. This event provides an excellent platform for international buyers to connect with producers from Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, as well as Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. These producers will bring a variety of tropical and subtropical fruits to the table, including mangos, pineapples, lychees, physalis, citrus fruits, and pomegranates, alongside strawberries and grapes, fresh herbs, and a wide array of vegetables such as sweet potatoes, avocados, and okra.
Africa is emerging as a compelling sourcing market for fruits and vegetables, and the IPD booth will prominently feature three companies from Kenya, showcasing their fresh herb offerings that encompass both classic and specialty varieties. European importers will have access to an impressive selection of herbs, including basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, coriander, sage, chives, savory, and sorrel. In addition to herbs, Kenyan producers will also present avocados, broccoli, chili peppers, and snap peas. Ghana is represented by a producer specializing in exotic pineapples, offering varieties such as Sugarloaf, Solo, Smooth Cayenne, and the classic MD2. From Morocco and Senegal, one company each will introduce various types of cherry tomatoes, chili peppers, and okra. Furthermore, two Egyptian companies will showcase a broad assortment, including different mango varieties, mandarins, grapes, watermelons, figs, and dates, as well as several types of pumpkins, avocados, sweet potatoes, and onions. Daniel Oppermann, a sourcing expert at the IPD, notes, "Although Africa has long been recognized as a sourcing market for fresh fruits and vegetables, the focus has primarily been on individual countries like Egypt and Morocco. However, the African continent has much more to offer, with emerging and exciting supply markets such as Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Ghana, and Kenya, and established players like Egypt and Morocco expanding their portfolios in recent years. Africa undoubtedly presents a significant opportunity for European buyers to diversify their sourcing management."
South America: A Vast Selection of Exotic Fruits
The South American delegation will also present an extensive array of fruits at the event, showcasing various mango varieties, dragon fruits, and limes from Brazil and Ecuador, alongside bananas from Ecuador, lychees, and different grape varieties from Brazil, as well as oranges from Peru.
On October 6, 2026, the "Global Women Fresh" initiative will host a networking event during Fruit Attraction. Following a panel discussion titled "More Than Just Good Intentions: What Truly Drives Women in Leadership Forward," there will be ample time for women in the fresh produce sector to connect and exchange ideas. The event will take place at 5:30 PM at the Fruit Forum, transitioning to Hall 1-3. The Import Promotion Desk has been a long-time partner of Global Women Fresh, supporting their initiatives through the "Women in Global Trade" program.
Additionally, the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) is organizing a buyer mission to Latin America, specifically targeting fresh fruits and vegetables in Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. This mission will take place from November 29 to December 6, 2026, where participating import companies will meet with a variety of producers carefully selected by IPD experts. Buyers will gain firsthand product information, familiarize themselves with production conditions, and learn all the details about the supply chain.
