Exploring Real Opportunities for Gipuzkoan Companies in Morocco's Key Sectors

Strategic Mission in Morocco Unveils Business Potential

The strategic mission organized by the Chamber of Gipuzkoa, in collaboration with the Provincial Council and involving 20 local companies, is making significant strides in Morocco, particularly in the cities of Casablanca and Tangier. This initiative aims to explore the real potential of Morocco as a viable destination for internationalization, and the agenda has proven to be exceptionally intensive, allowing participants to directly assess the country's business landscape.

During the initial days of the mission, the delegation engaged in a variety of activities, including institutional meetings, business networking, and visits to leading companies such as Renault and Irizar. These efforts are providing invaluable insights into the Moroccan industrial ecosystem and its developmental opportunities. In Casablanca, for instance, the agenda featured meetings with the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM) and the Moroccan Association for the Automotive Industry and Trade (AMICA). Furthermore, discussions took place at Spain's Chamber of Commerce and the Economic and Commercial Office, attended by the Economic and Commercial Counselor from the Spanish Embassy and local financial and institutional representatives.

Emerging Sectors and Business Opportunities

In Tangier, the delegation explored key industrial sites, including STELLANTIS and RENAULT, and held discussions with the Chamber of Spain in Tangier and the Regional Investment Center (CRI). This allowed them to experience firsthand one of Morocco's most dynamic industrial hubs. The mission also included a visit to the GIMAS Association, which represents the Moroccan aerospace and space sector, and the IRIZAR plant, further strengthening connections with strategic sectors and internationally established companies.

The findings from the mission indicate promising opportunities across several strategic sectors of the Moroccan economy. In the automotive industry, Morocco is solidifying its position as an export-oriented industrial hub, characterized by a well-structured supply chain and a robust demand for components, automation, and industrial services. In the aerospace sector, the growth of specialized clusters and the presence of major international groups create potential in areas such as aero-structures, wiring, and precision machining. The food industry is also experiencing growth, driven by increasing domestic demand, resulting in a burgeoning need for machinery and processing solutions. Additionally, the textile sector continues to maintain a strong position, focusing on flexible and rapid production aimed at the European market, with opportunities in machinery and digitalization.

Gipuzkoan companies are discovering avenues for entry primarily in three areas: the automotive sector, where they are integrating into the supply chains of the country's main industrial hubs; capital goods, providing machinery, automation, and engineering for industry; and semi-manufactures, supplying metallic, plastic, and chemical materials for local industries and expanding projects. This mission is reinforcing relationships with Morocco's institutional and business ecosystem through organizations such as CGEM, AMICA, GIMAS, and the Regional Investment Center, complemented by local Chambers of Commerce and the Economic and Commercial Office in Casablanca. Moreover, experiences are being shared with Gipuzkoan companies already established in the region, facilitating a comparison of market entry strategies and consolidation.

The mission will conclude with a final day in Casablanca, including meetings with firms such as Garrigues and Campezo. This initiative is set to validate tangible market opportunities and foster medium-term business relationships in an environment that necessitates strategic planning, partner selection, and a progressive view on internationalization.
