FIFA World Cup to Feature Star-Studded Opening Ceremonies Across North America

FIFA World Cup 2026: A Celebration of Music and Culture

The FIFA World Cup is set to kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony featuring an array of music stars, including the renowned Katy Perry, across all three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the ceremonies, beginning in Mexico City and followed by events in Toronto and Los Angeles, will seamlessly blend music, culture, and football. This approach aims to reflect both the individuality of each nation and the unity that the tournament embodies.

The inaugural show will take place during the opening match of the tournament on June 11 in Mexico City, where the Mexican national team will face off against South Africa at the iconic Azteca Stadium. The lineup for this event includes the Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock band Maná, pop sensation Alejandro Fernandez, singer Belinda, the cumbia group Los Ángeles Azules, and the South African artist Tyla. These plans were previously reported by various media outlets, including the New York Times.

Canada's first appearance is scheduled for June 12 in Toronto, where they will compete against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The opening ceremony for this match will feature Canadian music icons such as Michael Bublé, along with Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and the Palestinian-Chilean artist Elyanna.

The United States will commence their World Cup journey on June 13 in Los Angeles against Paraguay. The preliminary show is expected to include performances by superstar Katy Perry, alongside rapper Future, DJ Sanjoy, and artists Rema and Tyla. Infantino emphasized that the artist lineup reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrant nature of its numerous diasporas.
