Historic Inauguration of the Sand Races in Morocco
The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has unveiled the much-anticipated schedule for the 2026-2027 Sand Races World Championship, featuring a total of five exhilarating events. For the first time in the history of this prestigious championship, competitors will travel to North Africa, marking a significant milestone in the sport. The championship will kick off on the weekend of September 26-27, 2026, with the inaugural Morocco Sand Race, set to take place on the stunning beach of Mazagan in El Jadida, located approximately one hundred kilometers south of Casablanca along Morocco's Atlantic coast. This groundbreaking event will serve as the championship's debut on African soil, promising to deliver an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators alike.
Returning Favorites and New Challenges Ahead
Following the historic opening event, the championship will return to familiar venues, starting with the Bibione Sand Storm in Italy, which will celebrate its third consecutive edition from October 23 to 25, 2026. The third round will transport the action back to France with the Ronde des Sables de Loon-Plage, situated near Dunkerque. This event is making a comeback to the calendar after its last appearance in 2024 and is scheduled for November 7 and 8, 2026.
Next, the championship will head south to the picturesque Algarve region of Portugal for the Monte Gordo Sand Race, a staple of the competition since its inaugural season in 2023, taking place from November 27 to 29, 2026. The championship will culminate in 2027 with the 51st edition of the Enduropale du Touquet Pas-de-Calais, the legendary French sand race that will serve as the grand finale of the season, with the exact date still to be confirmed.
The schedule has been streamlined from six to five events, aiming to reduce logistical costs and enhance team participation in this unique form of motorsport, characterized by lengthy races on natural sandy circuits. Fans can stay updated on all the championship's developments through FIM’s social media channels and the Sportity app, while also engaging with riders and fellow enthusiasts using the hashtag #FIMSandRaces.
