First Direct Flight from Montreal to Agadir: A New Era for Moroccan Tourism

Historic Launch of Direct Air Service from Montreal to Agadir

The inaugural direct flight from the Canadian airline Air Transat, connecting Montreal to Agadir, successfully touched down at Al Massira Airport on Saturday, carrying 194 passengers. This significant new service, which operates every Friday, spans a duration of 7 hours and 15 minutes, and is set to enhance the visibility of Agadir as a prime destination in Atlantic Morocco. It is particularly beneficial for the large Moroccan community residing in Canada, notably in Montreal, and aims to rejuvenate Agadir’s tourism landscape.

The anticipated benefits of this new route are extensive, including increased hotel occupancy rates, the stimulation of local economic activities, job creation, and a more equitable distribution of tourist traffic throughout the region. This initiative is a crucial part of Morocco’s broader strategy to diversify its tourism markets and mitigate seasonal dependencies that have traditionally impacted the country’s tourism performance.

Abdou Jaiidi, a representative from Air Transat, shared that this new flight directly links North America with southern Morocco, presenting the Souss-Massa region with unprecedented access to a high-potential market. Following the successful launch of the Montreal-Marrakech route two years ago, Air Transat continues to expand its offerings with the Montreal-Agadir connection, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing air travel between the two regions.

As of August 2025, Morocco has welcomed over 174,000 Canadian visitors, marking a 29% increase from the previous year, and establishing Canada as a key market in the outreach strategy of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). The introduction of the Montreal-Agadir flight not only reinforces this strategic positioning but also showcases Morocco’s capability to attract new airline partners within lucrative market segments. This new route is integral to the ongoing efforts to bolster the Kingdom’s connectivity, diversify its target markets, and underscore the allure of its diverse destinations. The direct flight from Montreal to Agadir signifies a pivotal development in air connectivity between Morocco and Canada, opening up exciting new possibilities for promoting Morocco as a desirable destination in the North American market.
