Recent Arrests in Valencia Following Racist Attack
In a disturbing incident that has captured public attention, the Civil Guard of Spain has taken five individuals into custody, including two minors, in connection with a heinous racist attack on a 31-year-old Moroccan man named Mohamed M. The violent incident occurred during local festivities in Tavernes de la Valldigna, a town situated in the Valencia region, back in September. According to reports, the arrests were made over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, with three of the adult suspects scheduled to face court proceedings on Friday. They are being charged with intentional assault, infliction of bodily harm, and committing a hate crime.
The attack was particularly brutal, lasting a harrowing five minutes during which the victim was chased, punched, and kicked. Eyewitness accounts and video footage, which has since gone viral, reveal that the attackers taunted Mohamed with phrases such as "Go back to Morocco" and "Hit him." This shocking assault only ceased when several young women intervened, highlighting the community's capacity for solidarity in the face of violence. The assault left Mohamed with serious injuries, including three fractures to his jaw, necessitating surgical intervention and the installation of a support device that he may have to live with for the rest of his life. After spending ten days receiving treatment at the University Hospital of Valencia, the gravity of his injuries has raised significant concern among local and international observers.
