FNC Engages in Blue Economy and Climate Discussions at Marrakech Forum

On June 20, 2026, Aisha Rashid Laytim, a member of the Federal National Council (FNC) of the UAE, participated in the 4th Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum, which focused on the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region. This significant event was hosted by the House of Councillors of Morocco in collaboration with the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Laytim's involvement underscores the UAE's commitment to fostering economic dialogue and collaboration on vital issues affecting global prosperity.

The Blue Economy: A Catalyst for Growth and Innovation

During her address on the potential of the blue economy to generate jobs, Laytim emphasized that this sector is one of the fastest-growing globally, presenting vast opportunities in areas such as ports, maritime transport, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, marine industries, and food security. She articulated that the blue economy has emerged as a critical component of global economic security and sustainable development, highlighting its essential role in driving innovation and creating employment in various sectors.

Furthermore, Laytim pointed out the pivotal role of small and start-up enterprises in nurturing innovation and providing job opportunities, particularly for the youth. She advocated for the establishment of supportive legislative and financial frameworks to empower entrepreneurs, enabling them to transform their ideas into viable and successful businesses. Additionally, she highlighted the UAE’s strategic initiatives aimed at reinforcing its status as a global hub for ports, logistics, and maritime trade, alongside policies that encourage entrepreneurship, innovation, and the advancement of the digital economy.

In a related session, FNC member Hashima Yasser Ali Saeed Al Afari addressed the pressing issue of climate change and its ramifications on global food security. She cautioned about the extensive economic, social, and humanitarian impacts of climate change, noting that over 295 million individuals across 53 countries experienced acute food insecurity in 2024, exacerbated by conflicts and climate pressures. The most affected populations are primarily located in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated global efforts to combat these challenges.

The discussions at the Marrakech forum, attended by numerous FNC members, reflect a deeper commitment to addressing the interconnected challenges of economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity on a global scale.
