Four Migrants Expelled for Attempting to Cross with Fake IDs

In a recent incident in Ceuta, four Moroccan migrants found themselves facing legal repercussions after attempting to board a ferry to Algeciras using falsified identification documents. Judicial sources confirmed that these individuals were apprehended at the Ceuta maritime station while trying to travel with documents that did not belong to them. Upon their arrest, they were taken into custody and subsequently presented before a judge, where they admitted to the charges against them. This admission led to a sentence of two years in prison for the crime of document forgery.

However, the judge opted to replace their prison sentences with a five-year expulsion from Spain, mandating that the four migrants leave the country. This decision is part of a broader enforcement action, as these individuals were among a group of seven Moroccan migrants whose expulsions were ordered by a judge in Ceuta following their detainment for various offenses committed during their stay in the autonomous city.

In addition to the four migrants, three others in the same group faced charges for two counts of theft and one count of assault. Like their counterparts, they accepted their involvement in the crimes and received similar penalties that were also converted into expulsion orders from Spain for a period of five years.

Significant Increase in Voluntary Returns

On a related note, Ángel Víctor Torres, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, recently announced that since August 10, there have been over 7,000 voluntary returns from Ceuta. During a specialized committee meeting concerning the situation, he revealed that 364 individuals have been expelled due to criminal activities in the autonomous city. The recent detentions, including that of the four migrants attempting to cross to Algeciras, occur amid heightened scrutiny and pressure on the travel routes between Ceuta and the mainland, especially following a significant influx of migrants noted at the end of July.
