Fourth Humanitarian Medical Mission in Ophthalmology Kicks Off in Agadir

Transforming Lives Through Specialized Eye Care

The fourth edition of the humanitarian medical-surgical mission in ophthalmology commenced on Monday at the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center (CHU) in Agadir. This pivotal initiative is organized by the ophthalmology department in collaboration with the Moroccan Volunteers Association, the Southern Foundation, the Ad-Diaa Association for Vision Preservation, and the Kremer Eye Center from the United States. Its primary goal is to provide patients with access to highly specialized and precise surgical interventions in the field of ophthalmology. These procedures include retinal and vitreous surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, reconstructive eye and eyelid surgery, refractive surgery for severe myopia correction, and corneal transplants.

This year's mission has gathered a distinguished group of ophthalmologists and international experts from the United States, Canada, Romania, and the Dominican Republic. Running until the 11th of this month, the mission is set to facilitate over 200 scheduled surgical interventions for patients in need of specialized care.

In addition to the therapeutic services provided, this initiative also features a scientific and training program aimed at ophthalmologists and resident doctors. This program includes the organization of scientific conferences, practical workshops, and expertise exchanges, thereby fostering knowledge transfer and enhancing national medical competencies. The Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir emphasizes that this humanitarian mission exemplifies the commitment of all participating partners and institutions to improve access to specialized ophthalmology services, strengthen international medical cooperation, and contribute to better visual health and enhanced quality of care for the residents of the Souss-Massa region.
